Prep Roundup: Preston volleyball with big week, loaded weekend upcoming for local schools

Class AAA volleyball

The Preston High Knights picked up three solid wins this week without dropping a single set. On Tuesday, they downed East Fairmont and Grafton 2-0 in a tri-match before defeating Big X conference foe Fairmont Senior on Wednesday in a 3-0 sweep.

The Knights were led on offense by Shayla Brandt and Brooke Snyder. Brandt provided 31 assists between the two matches on Tuesday and 18 assists in the victory over the Polar Bears on Wednesday evening. Snyder contributed on both sides of the ball with 22 kills and six blocks on Tuesday. Snyder and fellow senior Camryn Sypolt each added eight kills against Senior.

Class AAAA volleyball

The Morgantown Mohigans will travel to St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Saturday morning to battle Marietta, Ohio, in the OVAC 5A volleyball championship game after defeating the University Hawks 3-1 on Wednesday night in the semifinals.

The Hawks will travel to Warren in a consolation match.

Class AAA girls soccer

Morgantown, University, and Preston will all be in action this Saturday as the season enters the final stretch.

The Mohigans will travel south on 79 to visit the Hurricane Redskins for a 10 a.m. kickoff while the Knights and Hawks each play games at home. Preston hosts Musselman at 1:00 p.m. in Kingwood, and UHS will welcome Fairmont Senior bright and early at 9:00 a.m. on Baker’s Ridge.

Boys soccer

UHS and Preston will complete doubleheaders with the girls’ teams on Saturday. 

The Hawks will welcome Buckhannon-Upshur at 11 a.m., following the girls’ game against Fairmont Senior at 9 a.m. The Knights will play John Marshall at 11 a.m. before the girls’ matchup with Musselman.
