MORGANTOWN — Morgantown City Manager, Kim Haws, has announced that he intends to retire in the near future, marking the end of a distinguished career in municipal leadership that spans several decades.
“Throughout his career, Haws has been instrumental in enhancing West Virginia communities, and his impact on Morgantown will continue to resonate long after his departure,” Mayor Joe Abu-Ghannam said in a statement. “To put it simply, he will be missed.”
Under his guidance and care, Morgantown has experienced significant advancements that have positively impacted both residents and businesses, ultimately strengthening the community as a whole.
As Haws prepares for retirement, he is committed to ensuring a seamless transition. He is actively working with city administration, Councilors, and officials to implement a transition plan that will allow Morgantown to continue to prosper.
While Morgantown City Council values Haws’ leadership and would like to retain him as the City Manager, they understand and respect his decision.
“I think we all understand the importance of the choice being made,” Deputy Mayor Jenny Selin explained. “We have a deep appreciation for Kim and can’t thank him enough for his thoughtful leadership over the years.”
Haws will remain in his role as City Manager until his retirement date, which is yet to be determined. Also, he will continue to focus on key projects that require his advisement and oversight.
“As I move into retirement, I will never forget the invaluable lessons learned and the cherished memories created alongside our remarkable staff and community leaders,” Haws proclaimed. “It has been a profound honor to serve Morgantown, and I am deeply grateful for the support, collaboration, and friendships that have blessed my journey. Together, we have built not just a city, but a legacy of hope and progress.”
The City of Morgantown will provide more information as it becomes available.
