David Martinelli

David Ross Martinelli, 27, of Sterling, Va., passed away peacefully in his hometown on August 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born to parents David Martinelli and Paula Martinelli on Jan. 17, 1997, in Morgantown, David’s life was marked by a beautiful tapestry of passion, courage and kindness.

A beloved husband to Molly DeCarli Martinelli, a cherished son and dear brother, David’s joyful spirit radiated through his relationships. Alongside Molly, he navigated life’s adventures with unwavering love and mutual respect. His father, stepmother, Diana Martinelli and mother, as well as his sisters, Sarah Zeh (Matthew), Lydia Tapia (Sergio) and Deborah Martinelli rejoiced in the strength of the family ties he fortified. His adoration for his maternal grandparents, Francis and Shirley Glogowski, and the memories shared with his late paternal grandfather, Thomas Martinelli, and his surviving paternal grandmother, Catherine DeLeonibus remain treasured. The family circle expanded with his in-laws, Brian and Katy DeCarli, and his sister-in-law, Madelyn DeCarli, all of whom David held in great esteem.

David, affectionately known as “Marty” to his good friends, was a devoted member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Sterling, Va., where he served as a worship leader and guided young minds as a middle school bible study leader, where his goal was to leave an impact on all those he taught. His faith was a cornerstone that provided strength to many and turned acquaintances into friends. He loved to share the gospel story and teach about salvation and heaven to all those he came in contact with. Enthusiastic about the outdoors, he found solace and excitement in camping, hiking and snowboarding, embracing nature’s grandeur.

An avid Steelers fan, David’s passion for Pittsburgh sports was infectious, much like his love for music. Multi-talented, he played several instruments, bringing melody and harmony into the lives of those around him. His curiosity led him to study coffee meticulously, both from a retail and roasting perspective, adding to the richness of his life’s experiences.

“Uncle Marty” found unparalleled joy in spending precious moments with his nephews and niece, Luca, Charlie and Eliana, imparting lessons of love through his actions and words. His life was a vivid illustration of passion, courage and kindness — a legacy that will forever be remembered and celebrated. David Ross Martinelli will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.

Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and again from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, for funeral service. Following the service, McCulla Funeral Home will provide cremation services.
