Carl Lazzell

Carl Lloyd Lazzell, 84, passed away in San Antonio on August 20, 2024.  

Born in Morgantown on Oct. 16, 1939, Carl was a respected figure in his community, entrepreneur and a loving family man.   

Carl is survived by his devoted wife, Anna Louise Lazzell; his three children, Amy Leigh Lazzell, Anna Carleen Davis and Carl Lloyd Lazzell II; his five grandkids, Amanda Dooley, Taylor Davis, Tanner Davis, Connor Lazzell and Cooper Lazzell; and half-brothers, Duane P. Lazzell and David W. Lazzell.  

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rufus Fenton Lazzell III and twin brother, Charles Thomas Lazzell, along with his parents, Mildred Blanche Ray and Rufus Fenton Lazzell Jr.; grandparents, Rufus Fenton Lazzell Sr and Wenona Elizabeth Brown; and great-aunt, Blanche Nettie Lazzell. 

Carl proudly served as a U.S. Army Green Beret, a testament to his bravery and dedication to his country. Following his distinguished military service, Carl led a successful career as the president and owner of General DE Carbon and worked in logistics for NASA.   

An alumnus of West Virginia University, Carl valued education and lifelong learning. His personal interests included golf, hunting, shooting and enjoying cigars. He was also known for his great sense of humor, often sharing jokes with friends and family.   

Carl’s legacy of leadership, courage and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

Friends and family will be received at Hasting Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bart Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove cemetery.
