MORGANTOWN — Former West Virginia kicker and fan favorite Pat McAfee will return to Morgantown to host “The Pat McAfee Show” live on ESPN2 and YouTube on Friday at noon.
McAfee, who has hosted his show daily since 2019, made the announcement last week that his show will broadcast from WVU’s campus prior to the Mountaineers’ football game against No. 8 Penn State on Saturday (noon, FOX).
“We can’t wait to get there as they take on Penn State in the biggest home-opener since 1998 in Morgantown,” McAfee said on his show Monday afternoon. “It’s been a lot of years since somebody like Penn State tried to walk in (to Morgantown) the opening weekend. They don’t even understand what these Morgantown faithful are going to be like.”
WVU hosted then-No. 23 Ohio State to open the 1988 season with the Buckeyes winning, 34-17.
McAfee’s show will be staged from noon to 3 p.m. outside the Life Sciences Building and air from noon to 2 p.m. on ESPN and until 3 p.m. on YouTube.
“We are very excited Pat is bringing his show to Morgantown on Friday. Mountaineers everywhere are proud of Pat and his success,” WVU athletic director Wren Baker said in a statement. “We are truly grateful for his unbridled passion for his alma mater and his desire to bring attention to WVU, Morgantown and West Virginia.”
Fans attending the show in person will be allowed to enter the green space outside the Life Sciences Building starting at 9 a.m. Friday. Overnight camping will not be permitted.
WVU encourages attendees to bring water and to be prepared for warm temperatures.
“We are happy to have the opportunity for our students to join a proud University graduate as he shares his love for WVU on a national stage,” WVU Dean of Students Corey Farris said in a statement. “Pat has always bled gold and blue, and that kind of loyal support for this University is rampant across Mountaineer Nation.”
West Virginia traveled to Penn State last year to open the season with the Nittany Lions winning, 38-15. Saturday’s game is the first time PSU will play in Morgantown since 1992.
Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” show will also be in town, broadcasting from the Blue Lot beginning at 10 a.m. before the game on Saturday morning.
