Barbara Gutman

Barbara Jean Gutman (Bobbi) passed away at the Harmony of Morgantown in Morgantown on July 9, 2024. 

Bobbi was born to Carl and Viola Gutman on Nov. 15, 1941, in Oberlin, Ohio.  

She is survived by her sister, Rita M. Krupp, of Charlotte, N.C., and many loving nieces and nephews. 

Bobbi spent a happy childhood in Oberlin, Ohio and graduated from Elyria Catholic High School in 1959. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology, graduating Summa Cum Laude, followed by a Master of Education Summa Cum Laude, both from the University of Pittsburgh. 

Her long career in medical technology spanned positions from staff technologist to assistant professor in the Department of Medical Technology at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1978, she joined West Virginia University’s Medical Center, becoming a tenured associate professor in their medical technology program. She was very involved in WVU’s service programs and blood banking. Bobbi retired from WVU in 2010 as Associate Professor Emeritus. 

Bobbi’s personal life was filled with many interests and activities. She loved to teach and learn and was an active Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) member at WVU. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. Travel excited her. 

An avid sports fan, she especially enjoyed watching football, tennis and golf. She loved nature and became a master gardener, angler, bird watcher, camper and boater. 

Her pet dogs and cats brought her great joy! A life well lived!
