United Way of Mon and Preston Counties joined with Huntington Bank and Steptoe & Johnson PLLC on Thursday to talk excellence.
The group gathered for its Board Member Excellence Training workshop in the Mon Health Medical Center Conference Center.
The program, as explained by United Way, was an opportunity to “give new, prospective and even experienced board members a high-level look at what it means to serve on a nonprofit organization’s board of directors.”
Katy David, a member of Steptoe & Johnson, and Patrick McGrew, a CPA senior audit manager with Baker Tilly, made presentations and discussed how to understand financial statements and other legal documents commonly examined by board members. They also explained how to best provide insights and constructive feedback using that information.
To make the day’s lessons more tangible, the speakers gave real-world examples to show how effective boards are managed.
