Robert Clutter

Robert “Bob” Von Clutter, 82, of Morgantown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, at Harmony at Morgantown. Robert was born on March 29, 1941, the son of the late Von and Carrie Clutter. Robert was born in West Union, Pa., and lived most of his childhood in Preston County.
He graduated in 1959 from Terra High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football, baseball and basketball. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where he was the starting third-baseman his freshman year for the Wesleyan “Bobcats” and studied geology. After his freshman year he transferred to West Virginia University. After working in the natural gas fields with his father he decided to leave college and work full-time in the drilling industry. He began his career with Snee & Eberly as a “tool pusher” and in 1962 he was hired by Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation in Accident, Md., as a Field Foreman. He supervised the drilling of gas wells in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Upstate New York. He spent his entire career with Texas Eastern and retired as an Area Supervisor. Robert enjoyed sports of every kind especially cheering on his beloved West Virginia Mountaineers. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. Robert lived for many years on Deep Creek Lake in McHenry, Md., and enjoyed spending time with family on their boat.
He was an avid golfer and after retiring and moving to Naples, Fla., spent many days on the golf courses near their home. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. Robert enjoyed gardening and raised an abundance of produce. Many of his neighbors and family members would often find baskets full of fresh vegetables on their porches that he left for them. He loved traveling with his wife after their retirement and especially enjoyed going to Wyoming and Montana.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Virginia Marie (Perrott) Clutter; sister, Carol Ann Schaible; brother-in-law, William Mallon; daughters, Lisa Ann (Duane)Butler of Accident, Md.,, Michele Renee (Charles D.) Godfrey of Martinsburg; grandchildren, Derek (Wes) Butler-Jackson of Clermont, Fla., Brent (Shaun) Butler of Accident, Md., Bethany Butler of Morgantown; great-grandchildren, Amelia Butler, Harper Minke, Grant Butler. Nephews Lee Clutter, Eric Clutter, and Trent Schaible and Niece Cathy Clutter. Also surviving is a beloved family pet, Ruffie.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas H. Clutter, F. William Clutter; and brother-in-law, Todd D. Schaible; father-in-law, Thomas A. Perrott, Sr.; mother-in-law, Etta Virginia Perrott; brothers-in-law, Robert B. Perrott, Thomas A. Perrott, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Patricia Mallon.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home and no services are being planned at this time.
