Joyce Landacre passed away Jan. 9, just shy of her 85th birthday. Joyce was born in Morgantown, on Jan. 14, 1939
Joyce loved her family, friends, church, West Virginia, and her Lord. Her legacy continues through her daughter, Cheryl Carpenter; son-in-law, Alex; son, John David Landacre; granddaughters, Meghan Israel, grandson-in-law Danny, Sierra Landacre, Alexa Landacre; great-grandson, Bennett; and great-granddaughter, Madelyn.
Joyce grew up in Morgantown with her parents Herb and Mildred DeBolt with her three siblings. One of her fondest memories in her youth was seeing the WVU Mountaineers play basketball. Since then, following Mountaineers basketball was one of her joys. She knew players’ stats even up to her passing. Joyce and her late husband, W. Duane Landacre, loved gardening, writing, and hospitality. At one point they ran a bed and breakfast in town called The Maples. Joyce even won horticulture awards while they lived in Indiana, Pa.
Joyce also was passionate about her time fundraising for the American Cancer Society. She was the top fundraiser for the Relay for Life in the state for multiple years. She was a breast cancer survivor and loved sharing her testimony of how her faith in Jesus got her through that season.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at Greater Love (GLFOM) church on her birthdate at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14. If you would like to honor Joyce through a donation, please give to her church Greater Love at greaterlovewv.org or to the American Cancer Society of Morgantown.
