Norman Murphy Sr.

Norman Murphy, Sr., passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born on Aug. 18, 1940, to the late Norman Pryor and Leila Murphy.

Norman’s legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his sons, Norman Murphy II and Richard (Denina) Murphy; his daughter, Debbie (Kevin) Stanley; his brother, Richard (Diane) Whitehair; his two nephews and a niece; along with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Ann Yvonne Murphy; and his brother, Steven Murphy.

A proud coal miner, Norman dedicated many years of service to CONSOL, where he was respected for his hard work and camaraderie. His passion for golf was unparalleled; he maintained an impressive game and was a caddy from his youth. Norman’s love for the game endured, and he played until his health no longer permitted.

An avid fan of westerns, Norman found comfort in the adventures of his favorite actors, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. His early years were marked by his athletic prowess, having played football for University High.

Norman Murphy, Sr., will be remembered for his resilience, warmth, and the enduring love he had for his family and friends. His memory will be a beacon of joy and strength for all who knew him.

In accordance with Norman’s wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.
