Carl Price

Col. Carl N. Price, 83 of Marco Island, Fla., and Old Orchard Beach, Maine, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023, at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness.

Carl was born in Star City, on Aug. 9, 1940, son of the late Carl J. and Rosalie (Claudio) Price. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School. He attended West Virginia University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in management. He received a master of arts degree in management from Florida Institute of Technology and the Amos Tuck Executive Program from Dartmouth College. He also attended the Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

He was commissioned from Reserve Officers Training Corps at West Virginia University in 1962. He had overseas assignments with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea, the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam and the Defense Subsistence Region, Europe in Germany.

His unit staff assignments included Infantry Battalion S-4 (Logistics), Division Support Command S-3 (Operations) and Corps Support Command, Assistant Chief of Staff, Materiel. He served in command positions at every rank from Second Lieutenant to Colonel.

He retired from the military in February 1992, after proudly serving his country for 30 years. He then began a second career working at the New Hampshire State Veterans Council where he worked until 2005.

Carl was an avid sports fan. He was a follower of WVU Mountaineer football and basketball teams, Pittsburgh Steelers football, and Boston Red Sox baseball.

Carl is survived by his wife, Barbara of Marco Island, Fla.; a step-son, Tim Lawson of Hillsboro, N.H.; a sister, Shirley Laurie of Perry, Ohio; a sister, Janice Price of Morgantown, a nephew and spouse, Greg and Angie Laurie of Madison, Ohio; a niece, Melissa Chesanko of Wooster, Ohio; three great-nephews, Jake, Drew and Luke Laurie of Madison, Ohio; an aunt, Elizabeth Mantini of Morgantown; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Chute, husband Sean and their sons, Tyler and Colby of Naples, Fla.; and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dennis Laurie, and a niece, Beth Ann Laurie.

Per his wishes, Carl was cremated. A mass honoring his memory will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Star City. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to mass.
