Shelley Reel

Shelley Faye (Powers) Reel, age 60 of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Shelley was born Dec. 11, 1962, in Corning, Ohio; daughter of Carolyn Pearl (McCartney) Matthew of Reedsville and the late Marvin LeRoy Matthew, Sr.

Shelley was devoted to always helping others which was evident through her career as a nurse. Shelley worked for over 35 years as an Operating Room Nurse and finished her career at EPIC as a hospital IT Professional. She was a longtime fan of Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh and loved her dogs, Itsy and Milly.

In addition to her mother, Shelley is survived by her children, Kaylin Nicole Powers and Allison Michelle Powers; stepson, Alex Reel and partner Stepheney; stepmom, Janet Matthew; siblings, Marvin LeRoy Matthew Jr. and wife Alice, Sheila Mae Bowser and husband Wade; Tim Matthew and wife Melinda; brother-in-law, Gary Reel and partner Lori; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Jennings and husband Eric and their children, Gavin, Reagan, and Quinn; Rachel Hoosier and husband Stephen and their children, Maddox, Krew, Audrey, and Anna; Shanna Humphrey and husband Evan; Taylar Clark and wife Kendra and their son, Oliver; Michael Matthew; and lifelong friends, Kim Shockley and Melissa Carson for their love and dedication throughout the decades of life together.

In addition to her father, Shelley was preceded in death by her husband, Greg Reel; and nephew, Brian Matthew.

The family would like to thank all of the WVU Medicine Hospice nurses, and especially Barbara, for her amazing dedication and comfort provided to Shelley and her family during her courageous battle with cancer.

In honoring Shelley’s wishes, McCulla Funeral Home has provided cremation services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Shelley’s memory.

A memorial visitation will be held at McCulla Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
