A Michigan man is facing charges after he crashed into several vehicles, including a school bus, in Star City, while recklessly fleeing from police.
The pursuit began on Oct. 19 when Patrolman Justice Carver reported seeing a white Ford Edge fail to stop at the intersection of Springdale Avenue and Fairfield Street, then accelerate at a high rate of speed down Fairfield Street.
The driver, later identified as Rex Cameron Jenkins Jr., 31, of Southfield, Mich., continued at a high rate of speed, disregarding all stop signs and traffic signals, even after Carver activated his lights and sirens.
During the pursuit, Jenkins allegedly ran into multiple vehicles, one of which was a school bus that was transporting children. Carver reported that Jenkins did not stop at any of the accidents to provide information or render aid.
The vehicle pursuit ended when a collision on West Run Road caused disabling damage to Jenkins’ vehicle — one driver had to be transported to the hospital, the complaint said. The severity of their injuries is unknown.
After the collision, Jenkins allegedly got out of his vehicle and attempted to run, Carver reported, but he was shortly apprehended by police and taken into custody.
Jenkins was charged with fleeing from law enforcement with reckless indifference. He was arraigned Oct. 20 in Monongalia County Magistrate Court where Judge Holepit set bond at $250,000. Jenkins is being held at North Central Regional Jail.
