Helen Stepoulos

Helen “Eleni” Stepoulos, 93, of Morgantown, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023. She was born in Sofades, Thessalia, Greece, on April 23, 1930, one of six children of the late Vasiliki and Miltiades Volotopoulos.

Helen was loving wife, mother and grandmother to her four grandchildren, who called her ‘Yiayia’.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Stepoulos of Morgantown. Nick passed away in 2019. They were married for 60 years.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Anastasia (Stacey) and son-in-law, Cletus Norton of Orlando, Fla., and their two sons, Richard and Luke; and also her son, Anastasios (Ernie) Stepoulos and daughter-in-law, Gina Stepoulos of Brunswick, Md., and their two daughters, Emilee and Casey. She is also survived by her niece, Claudia Asvestos of Morgantown; nephew, John Stepoulos of Columbus, Ohio., and many living members of the Volotopoulou family in Greece and the Pappas family in the U.S.

Helen travelled to the United States in 1954, sponsored by the late Father Constantine and Presvytera Evangelia Pappas, along with their three sons Paul, James and Chris. They lived in Wilmington, N.C., until arriving in Morgantown in 1957. Helen has been a devoted member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Morgantown since then. She was a member of the Choir and Ladies Auxiliary as well. Helen was deeply devoted to her Greek Orthodox Faith and never missed a Divine Liturgy or Holy Week service.

Helen was proud to live at 272 Waitman St., a home that was built by Nick’s parents in 1923. She worked as a seamstress at Morgan Shirt Factory for many years. She was an amazing homemaker, not only at 272 Waitman, but two houses down at 264 Waitman, where her family lived for several years while Nick’s mother was still living at 272.

Helen was the last survivor of her siblings, Dimitraki, Constantinos (Costa), George, Sotiria (Lula) and Chrysanthe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Helen Stepoulos to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church at 447 Spruce St. Morgantown, WV 26505.

Friends and family will be received at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 447 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, until the time of the Funeral Services at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Jon Emanuelson officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.
