Earnest Hart

Earnest George “Ernie” Hart, 84, of Morgantown, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 2, 2023, at Morgantown Health & Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Pursglove, on Dec. 29, 1938, a son of the late Charlie Hart and the late Elva Lavina Hyatt Hart Riley.

Ernie is survived by his two daughters, Tina Hart and companion Joey England, and Tia Sullivan and husband Marty; three grandchildren, Cedric Smith, Cain England, and Lucas Sullivan; and his siblings, Sam Hart, Bob Hart, and David Riley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Glenn Hart, Peggy Mollisee, Mary Ann Rehaneck, Buck Hart, Gary Riley; a sister who died in infancy; and his grandmother, Mary Ann Sorrell of Kentucky, who he dearly loved.

Ernie was a dedicated and loyal WVU Mountaineer Fan. He and his “football buddy” Sandra Hart would watch the Mountaineer games at their homes and talk with each other during the game. He enjoyed going to Senior Monongalians and playing cards with his buddies there. Ernie loved his time with his faithful canine companion, Midnight who was his constant companion.

Friends may join the family to honor Ernie’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave. Westover/Morgantown, from noon on Thursday, Oct. 5, until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Reverend Ray Frankhouser. Following the funeral service and at Ernie’s request, he will be cremated.
