Carl Colebank

Dr. Carl Allen Colebank, 88, of Morgantown passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
Allen was born on Dec. 18, 1934, in Morgantown and was the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Colebank.
Allen was a hard worker from an early age and graduated from University High School in 1953. He served as Senior Class President and Student Body President during his senior year. During his high school sports career, he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was on the West Virginia All-State Team in 1952. He participated in the North-South Football game and earned a scholarship from the game officials. He was inducted into the University High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 3, 2021.
He was active in the Future Farmers of America including serving as the State President in 1954 and National Vice President in 1955. He was a foreign exchange student to England in 1958 and was honored as the Star Farmer of West Virginia in 1954.
He also played football at West Virginia University for three years. He earned his doctorate in education from West Virginia University in 1972. Allen was a professor of education and taught at Fairmont State University for 32 years. Allen coached baseball at Fairmont State University for three years. He earned the Excellence in Academic Advising Award in 2003. He was also the Faculty Senate President for many years.
He coached youth baseball for many years and led his team to the Pony League World Series in 1992. In addition to his many accomplishments, Allen was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family above all else.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy Colebank; daughter, Donna Colebank; son, Daniel Colebank and his wife Heather; two grandchildren, Cooper Colebank; and Corbin Colebank; sisters, Linda Cummings, and Nancy Galusky and her husband Bob; sister-in-law, Connie Colebank; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his brother, Norman Colebank; and his brother-in-law, Donald Cummings; and nephews Brian and Tom Colebank.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. Morgantown, from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17. Visitation will continue on Monday, Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
