Mohigans win 1st OVAC golf title, Hawks finish 3rd

WHEELING — For the first time in program history, the Morgantown Mohigans are OVAC golf champions.

Playing on the Jones Course at Ogleby Resort in Wheeling on Thursday, the Mohigans won the OVAC 5A championship with a team score of 333, just edging runner-up Dover (Oh.) at 340 and out cross-town rival University with a team score of 342.

MHS was led by Solas Chinn-Kreiner, who finished as the runner-up medalist with a round of 78. University’s Landon Spiker took medalist honors, shooting 76 on the challenging course.

Also scoring for the Mohigans were Gabriel Watson (83), Andrew Sheets (85) and Braxton Martucci (87). Ayden Shepard shot 89 in the fifth position.

This continues a recent run of success for Morgantown as the golf team won its first-ever TRAC championship earlier this month and Grace Yan took third overall in the girls’ state tournament last week.

For the Hawks, Spiker’s low round of 76 was followed by Daniel Grabo (83), Adam Argabrite (84) and Will Biddington (99).

Making up the all-tournament team were Chinn-Kreiner and Watson from MHS, Spiker and Grabo from UHS, Chris Elliott from Steubenville (Oh.), Brooke’s Garrett Hornick, Wheeling Park’s Campbell Keogler and Parkersburg South’s Parker Vannoy.
