Sue Chandler

Carol “Sue” Chandler was born May 13, 1950, in Elkins. She grew up in Valley Bend and Masontown. She attended Valley High School in Masontown. Sue received degrees in education from West Virginia University, Georgia State University (master’s degree), and the University of Georgia (doctorate degree). Sue was a longtime resident of Georgia living most of her time in Atlanta. She retired in 2014 after working for the Georgia Piedmont Technical College, where she was Director of Student Affairs Operations. She enjoyed traveling with her longtime partner, Patricia (Pat) Lehn, who survives, and hosting family get togethers at her home.

Sue was the daughter of the late James Hartsel Chandler and Carrie M. Arnold Chandler. Sue is survived by two brothers, Thomas N. Chandler of Reedsville, and Jerry L. (Olive) Chandler of Marietta, Ga. She was preceded in death by brothers, William A. Chandler, John P. Chandler, Robert M. Chandler, and infant twins James Howard and Harts Junior; and sisters, Lois A. Gum, Peggie J. Bracken, and Marcia K. Swoger. Regrettably, Sue and Marcia, who were only 14 months apart at birth and were lifelong close friends, died the same day, just three hours apart. Sue, who was childless, is survived also by many nieces and nephews who she loved very much.

In accordance with her wishes, Sue will be cremated. No funeral services are planned. A memorial service will be held at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock, Ga., on Sunday, Sept. 3, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Kim Long officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to LifeLine Animal Project.
