Commission discusses upping sponsorship money

KINGWOOD — The executive director of the Tucker Community Foundation (TCF), David Cooper, asked Preston County Commission to increase its sponsorship for Run For It by $500.

Cooper asked for $3,500 this year rather than the $3,000 given in the past years.

Cooper said Preston is one of eight counties TCF serves. The race raises awareness and support for nonprofits, civic organizations and other charities throughout TCF’s area of service. It also promotes healthy activity and encourages local philanthropy.

Commissioner Hunter Thomas said he remembered Cooper requesting $3,500 instead of $3,000 during an earlier commission meeting.

“We’ll verify your request and get back to you later,” Commission President Samantha Stone said.

Cooper said he needs an answer by the middle of September.

No further action was taken.

County Clerk Linda Huggins told commissioners there are more problems with storage in her office.

“We would like to take books that are not used as much and put them in the vault in the prosecuting attorney’s old office,” she said. “I have the money for shelving. It would cost about $600 for three heavy-duty shelving units.”

Stone said commissioners should meet with office holders and decide what the needs are.

“We need to make sure the vault was reset so it can be reset with new numbers,” Commissioner Don Smith sad. “We’ll look at it and measure it and let you know.”

Commissioners approved the hiring of two part-time dispatchers, April Greathouse, of Masontown, and Tiffany Vannucci, of Kingwood. No further information was given.

In other business, commissioners:

  • Approved the appointment of Daniel Batson to the building commission
  • Went into executive session to discuss personnel. No action was taken.

The next meeting of the Preston County Commission will be 9:30 a.m. Monday.
