David Forbes

David C. Forbes, 79, passed away peacefully with his wife, Connie, holding his hand, at Cortland Acres Rehabilitation Center in Thomas, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023. There is a large hole in Connie’s and his son’s and daughter-in-law’s hearts, but they are thankful that his passing was quick and peaceful.

The son of the late Coleman and Martha Watts Forbes, he was born on April 2, 1944, in Morgantown.

A Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army, David later worked as a glass blower for Davis and Lynch Glass Company, Mattiki Coal Co., and First United Bank and Trust. Following heart surgery in 2006, he retired. David enjoyed puzzles, oil painting, gardening, and spending time with his Dachshunds. He made the family laugh and was joyful, thoughtful, generous, and loyal to all.

For 39 years, David and his wife lived in Oakland, Md., and in 2021, they downsized and moved to Thomas. David celebrated by not having to mow grass and blow snow.

David is survived by his wife, Connie Gribble Forbes, of 50 years; his son and daughter-in- law, Craig David and Fabiane Forbes; siblings, Sharen Nair, Jack Forbes, and Carl Forbes; and special friend, Homer Rodeheaver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dick Forbes and Randy Forbes; and sister, Karen Varner.

David’s wish was for cremation and no services. This has been provided by the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills.
