Ruby Concert Series

Sam Bush with opener Andrew Adkins took the stage at Ruby Amphitheater Friday evening.

Bush — the only boy — grew up with four sisters on a Bowling Green, Ky., cattle farm in the post-war 1950s.

Inspired by Ricky Skaggs playing mandolin with Flatt and Scruggs at the Grand Ole Opry, Bush bought his first mandolin when he was 11.

As a teen fiddler, Bush was a three-time national champion in the junior division of the National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest. He recorded an instrumental album, “Poor Richard’s Almanac” as a high school senior.
Friday’s show was part of Morgantown’s free Summer Concert Series.

Smashmouth with opener Motorcycle Drive-By will be the final in this summer’s series, hitting the amphitheater Aug. 25.

There will be food and beverage vendors within walking distance of the amphitheater. Public parking is available at Wharf Street Parking, Pleasant and Chestnut Street Parking, University Avenue and Chestnut Street and Spruce Street Parking.

All concerts are free to attend with opening acts beginning at 6:30 p.m. and headliners taking the stage at 8 p.m.

The Aug. 25 performance will conclude with a small fireworks show.

The Ruby Summer Concert Series is presented by the City of Morgantown and the Hazel Ruby McQuain Trust with support from numerous sponsors.
