MORGANTOWN – Fairmont Republican Jonathan Board announced this week that he is seeking the GOP nomination for the 13th District state Senate seat now held by Sen. Mike Caputo, D-Marion.
Board was joined by family members, friends and supporters, and local Republican legislators for his Wednesday announcement at the new Apple Annie’s in the Middletown Commons in White Hall.
The 13th District spans the I-79 corridor in Monongalia and Marion counties. Caputo is the Marion County member and his sucessor must be a Marion resident.
Sen. Michael Oliverio, R-Monongalia, is the Mon member of the 13th and introduced Board on Wednesday. “Rare is a person that brings such an array of experience to public office. I am excited about the prospect of serving with him in the West Virginia State Senate and hope that after my constituents take a good, strong look at his candidacy they will see the same qualities in him that I see.”
Board has served on the West Virginia First Foundation board, as a member of Morgantown Community Resources Inc., and as a member of the executive board of the Marion Regional Development Corp. He is vice president of external affairs and strategic initiatives for Mon Health System/Vandalia Health.
First-time voter and incoming Fairmont State University freshman Isaac Klennert said of Board, “As a new voter, I am excited to see a candidate for West Virginia Senate who values the importance of family and has a desire to better West Virginia not just for this generation, but for generations to come.”
“We are blessed with so much here in the 13th District. I believe it is the pinnacle of West Virginia innovation, hospitality, education, and the very best this state has to offer through all four seasons,” Board said. “However, the very best asset of this district is the people, and we must give them the voice they deserve in Charleston.”
