Janie Protzman

Janie Estelle Protzman (née Roberson), 91, of Morgantown, passed away July 23, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 23, 1932, to the late Noah Perry Roberson and Annie Estelle Pate of Williamston, N.C.

The 10th of a family of 15 children, she was fondly referred to by her siblings as “Sister.” She had many fond memories of growing up on the family farm, where they grew tobacco and cotton. She was a graduate of Williamston High School.

In 1954, she was married to Marion Lee Protzman and moved to Morgantown, where they would raise a family of eight children. Janie was a Christian by faith and was devoted to the Lord. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed having tea parties with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Noah Perry Protzman, Donovan Dan Protzman, Brad Alan Protzman, and David Lee Protzman and wife Carly; and daughters Tracy and Robert Conners Jr., and Kelley Elizabeth Protzman Reel. She is also survived by a special niece and nephew, Elizabeth “Lib” Sadler and Albert Roberson Jr., of Williamston, N.C.; 14 grandchildren Noah, Brittany, Donovan and Paige Protzman, Matthew and fianceé Holly, Benjamin, Chris and spouse Deaven, and Jason Conners, Joseph, Jennifer and Phenix Protzman, Kristin Reel and spouse Tommy Lewis, and Daniel and Rebecca Protzman; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marion Lee Protzman; two sons; Roger Lee Protzman and Benjamin David Protzman; four brothers, Jerry, Noah, Harmon and Albert; and eight sisters, Katherine, Sally, Alice, Mae, Christine, Beulah, Ollie and Viola; and two daughters-in-law Judy Charlene Hilling and Amy Christine Cox.

At Janie’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Following cremation, she will be laid to rest at a later date at the Mt. Union Cemetery in Morgantown. A separate service will be held in North Carolina at a later date.

Janie’s family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to WVU Physical Therapy and WVU Medicine Hospice for the love and care that was given to her. Also, the family wishes to thank her grandson Joseph Protzman for being there for whatever Janie needed in her final months.
