MORGANTOWN — West Virginia center Zach Frazier has been named to the 2023 All-Big 12 preseason team, released Wednesday afternoon.
Frazier, a junior from Fairmont, was WVU’s only representative on the preseason team and has started all but one game of his three-year college career, including 25 straight starts at center. He earned All-Big 12 Conference first-team honors last season. Earlier this offseason, Frazier was named a way-too-early All-American by ESPN.
This season, Frazier will anchor a Mountaineer offensive line that will be one of the most experienced units in the country. Along with Frazier’s 33 career starts, Doug Nester has 41, Brandon Yates 21, Wyatt Miulum 12 and Ja’Quay Hubbard 11.
Texas led the Big 12 with five preseason all-conference selections. Reigning conference champion Kansas State had four representatives, as did Kansas and national runner-up TCU.
Jayhawk quarterback Jaylon Daniels was named preseason offensive player of the year. Daniels threw for 2,014 yards and 18 touchdowns and ran for 425 yards and seven more scores.
Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford was tabbed as the preseason defensive player of the year after amassing 119 tackles, four interceptions and three forced fumbles last season.
Running back Treshaun Ward was picked as the newcomer of the year after transferring from Florida State to Kansas State. Ward rushed for 628 yards and seven touchdowns with the Seminoles last season.
