Start your celebration of July 4 today in Morgantown at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park.
“We are excited to have a patriotic program that celebrates our nation’s independence,” Vincent Kitch, director of Arts and Culture for the City of Morgantown, said in a Friday release. “With the Fourth of July falling on a Tuesday this year, we decided to celebrate on Saturday, July 1, so everyone will be able to attend the event and enjoy our famous fireworks display.”
The park will open at 5 p.m. with activities getting underway at 7 p.m. and running until 10:30 p.m.
The Air National Guard Bands of the Northeast will perform during the event. The band’s repertoire includes a mix of wind band music including Americana, movie themes, jazz favorites, classical and contemporary band music, and popular marches. The Concert Band regularly features its world class musicians with instrumental and vocal solos.
There will also be food trucks, face painting, live music and more. Stay the whole time and you’ll have the opportunity to watch the free fireworks display at 10 p.m.
This event is presented by the City of Morgantown, with help from the Monongalia County Tourism Advancement Fund, courtesy of the Monongalia County Commission and the Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Also today, Mylan Park will host its third annual Freedom Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center and Sports Complex.
The free event features a variety of activities and local businesses.
There will be concessions, roller skating, bounce houses, sports, art activities, giveaways and more.
Participants can also enjoy half-price swimming at the Aquatic Center.
On July 4, head out to the WVU Creative Arts Center for the 33rd performance of the Morgantown Municipal Band, under the direction of C.B. Wilson, former associate provost for Academic Personnel at WVU, Independence Day concert.
It will begin at 11 a.m. outside the front of the CAC.
This year’s concert will be dedicated to the memory of Phil Faini, former dean of the College of Creative Arts.
Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, and sun protection (hats, umbrellas). Parking is available in the CAC parking lot.
