MORGANTOWN — For a second-consecutive year, Best Virginia earned a No. 1 seed in its home regional in The Basketball Tournament (TBT).
TBT brackets were released Wednesday, with the WVU alumni team scheduled to play No. 8-seed DuBois Dream, a minor-league organization based out of Pennsylvania, at 7 p.m. on July 25 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
A first-round win for Best Virginia would set up a rivalry game in the second round on July 27 against Herd That (Marshall) or Zoo Crew (Pitt).
Best Virginia, now in its fourth season of TBT competition, advanced to the national quarterfinals of the $1 million winner-take-all tournament last year.
While Best Virginia’s roster is still being constructed, the team has already signed former standouts like Kevin Jones, John Flowers, Jaysean Paige, Kedrian Johnson, Nathan Adrian and Teyvon Myers. The team will be coached by James Long.
The West Virginia Regional is scheduled for July 25-30 in Wheeling.
Best Virginia is 6-3 in TBT play. DuBois Dream is 0-3.
Sideline Cancer, which is 14-9 in TBT, earned the No. 2-seed in the regional and faces Ram Nation (VCU alumni), while Challenge ALS: Florida meets Dawg Town (Georgetown alumni) in the other first-round games.
Ticket information for the regional can be found at thetournament.com.
