The beloved Christine Fowler Putkowski went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family and friends. Chris was born in Morgantown as the first daughter to Emil Fowler Sr. and Carol Sliker on March 8, 1958. Chris was of Methodist faith.
Chris loved and adored her two children, Jessica Walls, and Derrick Walls. Chris is also survived by her mother, Carol, and father, Emil Sr.; sisters, Kimberly Fowler, Laura Gibson, Jennifer Skinner; and brother, Emil Fowler, II. Chris loved her time with her lifelong friend, Connie Gibson. She is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members. Chris married Vince Putkowski on April 15, 2000.
Chris worked on a dairy farm for several years in Preston County. She then decided she wanted to go to college. She attended West Virginia University, graduating in 1994. As a mother, she wore many hats during her college years balancing her children, work, and home life. After graduating from WVU, Chris went to work for Patriot Mining Company and then for their parent company Anker Energy Corporation in Morgantown, until a brain tumor cut her working years short.
Chris enjoyed life despite her illness. She loved to garden, sit in the sun, travel, meet up with her friends and greatly enjoyed family gatherings. She was an avid photographer, owner of Royal Orchid Photography, and author of a published book entitled, “Stretching Barbed Wire In High Heels”. She was very spunky until the very end of her life. Chris never let her illness slow her down.
The family would like to thank all the people who helped Chris over the years of her illness, including Kali, Julia and Amedisys Hospice of Morgantown. She will always love you like family.
Hastings Funeral Home is entrusted with cremation arrangements. A gathering will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, at 4 p.m. Monday, May 22, until the time of the service at 6 p.m. Flowers are welcome or donate to your favorite charity.
