Joe Pervola, Jr., 72, of Morgantown, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born September 13, 1950, in Morgantown, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Katchan) Pervola.
Joe is Catholic by faith. He graduated from Morgantown High School in 1968, and went onto WVU and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1973 in Physical Education. He worked in the coal mines for 21 years before going back to WVU and receiving his Master’s Degree in Safety Management in 1997. He then continued his career in the mining industry until his time of retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patty Pervola; children, Theresa Bierer and her husband Brian, Christel Pervola, Joe Pervola and his wife Trista, and Stephanie Gordon and her husband Boa; grandchildren, Devon and Dakoma Neal, Joseph and Ava Pervola, and Colby and Max Gordon; sister, Maxine Arbogast; and nephew and niece, Michael Arbogast and his wife Shannon and Lori Sherlock and her husband Brian. Joe is also survived by many friends, including his close friend, Mark McGettigan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Larry Arbogast and Ed Galusky; and nephew, Larry Arbogast.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 3 p.m. on Friday, May 5 until the time of the prayer service to conclude the evening visitation at 7 p.m. with Father Brian Crenwelge officiating. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place following the service. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life to be held at Joe Pervola’s garage on Sunday May 7 at 1 p.m.
