Ronald Gene Donaldson, 74, of Morgantown, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Morgantown on Dec. 31, 1948, a son of the John and Mildred Tichenor Donaldson.
Gene is survived by his two sons, Ronald Gene Donaldson II, with whom he made his home, and Joey Donaldson and his wife, of Mount Morris, Pa.; two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters, making Gene the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Gene was a police officer who served the towns of Star City, Granville and Westover over the course of several years. He was a proud veteran United States Marine Corps and loved to fish and take long walks.
Friends may join the family to honor Gene’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28 with Pastor Brad Riser officiating. Interment will follow in the Arnettsville Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded at the graveside.
