Cathy Oleksa

Cathy Marie Oleksa, 67, of Morgantown, passed away at her home on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 26, 1955, daughter of the late Harold Lipscomb and Loretta (Boyles) Lipscomb, in Morgantown.

She graduated from Morgantown High School in 1973 and then graduated from West Virginia Career College as a dental assistant in 1975.

Cathy worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Elias Costianes and then Drs. Louis and Chris Giuliani for many years.

She had many hobbies and interests, including reading, bowling, gardening and RV’ing. Most days, you could find her with a book in her hand. In her younger days, she bowled with her mother, Loretta, and sister, Becky, at Suburban Lanes, including the Tuesday Night Birdwatchers and Thursday Night Suburbanites leagues.

Cathy definitely had a green thumb. She could bring any wilted, neglected plant or flower back to life. Each summer her garden produced an abundance of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers that she shared with friends and family. Everybody knows, however, that shopping was something she excelled at.
For Cathy, RV’ing started at a young age, traveling to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with her family. This was a yearly tradition that continued throughout her life and later included Larry and her sons. Tailgating and spending the night before West Virginia home football games was another yearly event that she loved.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Larry Oleksa; sons, Cory (Erin) Oleksa and Tyler (Savannah) Oleksa; sister, Becky (Bob) Lipscomb-Ferry; brothers-in-law, Brock (Jocelyn) Oleksa and Gary (Pam) Oleksa, as well as many nieces and nephews. Most of all, she loved being “MeMe” to her four grandchildren, Carson, Claire, Harlan and Reagan.

The family would like to give a special thank you to WVU Hospice Care for the exceptional treatment Cathy received.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1. Visitation will continue at Kingdom EMC Church, 540 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2 with Pastor Kevin Cain officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to St. Ursula’s Food Pantry and Outreach, P.O. Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546.
