Art exists not only to allow humankind to express itself, but also to help us understand problems and concepts that sometimes feel too large or heavy to grasp.
A panel discussion today at the Museum Education Center in the Art Museum of WVU will look at pieces portraying a difficult issue that’s confronted people since the beginning of time: War.
“Combat and Art: An Interdisciplinary Conversation” begins at 6 p.m.
This is an in-person event. A recording will be posted to the Art Museum’s YouTube playlist in the days following the talk.
The discussion is inspired by the current exhibition, “In/Humanity: Combat and War in Art,” and features three WVU faculty members. Experts on the panel will offer their perspectives on how visual depictions of conflict can help us better understand the human experience of war and trauma.
Through a moderated conversation and facilitated Q&A, the panelists will connect their areas of expertise to themes explored in the exhibition.
Panelists include:
- Lisa Di Bartolomeo, inaugural Art Museum of WVU faculty fellow and teaching professor of Russian studies and Slavic and East European studies
- Cody Corliss, associate professor of law
- Kristina Olson, director of the School of Art and Design and professor of Art History
- Moderator: Heather Harris, curator of education, Art Museum of WVU
