Daniel Wade Meadows, 51, of Masontown, passed peacefully at home, following an extended illness on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023. Dan was born in Morgantown on July 15, 1971, to Opal “Sandy” Taylor Huggins, of Masontown and Pastor Daniel L. Meadows, of Morgantown.
Dan was a graduate of Morgantown High School, Class of 1989. He attended WVU majoring in sports psychology and the WV Junior College. He worked in the restaurant industry at various places in Morgantown and as far away as Las Vegas and Florida. He had a strong work ethic and a passion to lead others. His years of experience would have him called upon to establish new locations and set them on the path to success. He continued in this venture until his health would no longer allow it.
Dan battled diabetes his entire life but never allowed it to control his daily activities until recently. He hated that he couldn’t work anymore and desired to serve others. He fought a good fight and has now finished his race.
If you knew Dan well, you knew he had a great sense of humor, loved spicy foods, had a colorful shoe collection, enjoyed talking about both vintage and newer cars, drove on the Autobahn and didn’t mind the expensive labels. He was proud to say he surfed during hurricane Katrina. One of his favorite places on earth was Disney World, which he visited more than 45 times.
Dan is survived by his mother, Opal “Sandy” Taylor Huggins, of Masontown; his father, Pastor Daniel L. Meadows and wife Bonnie of Morgantown; two daughters, Ivy Meadows, of Washington, D.C. and Isabella Meadows, of Bridgeville, Pa.; stepson, Brennan Petrucci; one brother, Shawn Meadows; special friend Jeffrey Miller, who was like a brother; stepmother, Janet Saul, and stepfather Jeffery Fulk; two nephews, Hunter Meadows and Nathan Meadows, with whom he had a special relationship; aunts and uncles, Donna Robinson, Robert (Connie) Meadows, Phillip (Linda) Meadows, Mary (Keith) Amos, Jane (Ron) Vance and John (Stephanie) Meadows.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Christopher Meadows; his maternal grandmother, Eleanor Taylor; paternal grandparents, Robert and June Meadows; great-grandfather, Wade Taylor; and his close friend, Vick Zanotti.
Dan’s request for cremation will be honored by his family and a private scattering service will be held at a later date.
When news came that cure was not to be, Dan got busy living and even planned how he wanted to be remembered and celebrated. To honor those wishes, friends and family are invited to gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, with his father, Pastor Dan Meadows, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Dan to Camp Kno-Koma, 364 Patteson Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505. Camp Kno-Koma’s mission is to serve as a non-profit organization with the goal of providing a summer camping experience for children with diabetes in and around the state of West Virginia.
