Lawrence G. Johnson, 79, of Morgantown, passed away on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 16, 1944, in Preston County, a son of the late Otis Johnson and Hester Goodwin.
Lawrence worked and retired from West Virginia University. In his free time, he enjoyed finding a good deal at flea markets, fishing and softball. He also was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by his daughters, Paula Salamone and husband Joseph, Regina Ralston and husband Marc and Tina Johnson; sister, Joann Mathess; grandchildren, Joseph Salamone, Cody Salamone, Greta Goodman, Dewayne Martin, Anna Martin, Melissa Miller, Tommy Martin, Bobby Martin, Katie Martin, Jake Martin, Matthew Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Danielle Bevins and Carly Larsok; many great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Piper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Johnson; daughters Heddie Johnson and Bonnie Johnson; stepfather, Jimmy Goodwin Sr., brother, Jimmy Goodwin Jr.; and sisters, Mary Hiser, Susie Bosley and Debbie Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, with Pastor Jason Sheffstall officiating. Lawrence will be laid to rest at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
The family will have a picnic in Lawrence’s memory later this year.
