Clyde Gibson

Clyde William Gibson, 81, of Kingwood, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s house on Feb. 14, 2023. Clyde died on Valentine’s Day, as he was full of love and had such a big heart. He loved all those around him.

Clyde was born March 21, 1941, of the late Oleda Strahin and Roy Gibson Sr., in Cascade.

He was a hard worker his whole life and worked at Sterling Farms and then at Chem Metals until the 1985 flood. He then worked many years for Preston County Schools until his retirement. Clyde then continued to do yard work and cut grass for many all over Kingwood. He loved the outdoors.

Clyde was preceded in death by his loving mother, Oleda Mae Blosser Strahin; his stepfather, Paul Strahin; his father, Roy Gibson Sr.; and two half brothers, Harold and Willard Gibson.

Clyde is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Martha Clara Louise (Fletcher) Gibson; his loving children: William “Bill” and Lisa Gibson, of Angola, Ind., Larry Gibson, of Kingwood, Cheryl and Billy Ringer, of Winchester, Va. and Michele and Chuck Barnett, of Albright; his brother, Edward “Gib” and Rosie, of Masontown; his sister, Sue Strahin and Betty Read, of Masontown; and his stepbrother, Roy Jr. and Sandi Gibson, of Masontown.

His heart was full of love for his grandchildren: Crystal and Chadd VanDevender, of Grafton, Whitney Barnett, of Albright, Mariah Bright, of Independence, Tiffany and Paul Rowan, of Newburg, Emily and Benjamin Stickman, of Linden, Va., Jarret Gibson, of Angola, Ind., Jacob Gibson, of Angola, Ind., and Trip Gibson, of Kingwood.

Clyde had so much joy from his great-grandkids: C.J., Adrianna, Haven and Elijah VanDevener, Brooklyn and Thalia Bright and Kinslee, Kaleighana, Kilah and Kamrey Rowan.

Clyde had a love for so many friends and family. His smile was contagious. He loved to be a jokester and put a smile on everyone around him. To the end, he was a gambling man. Clyde would say, “Don’t worry, be Happy!”

Friends will be received at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 South Price St., Kingwood, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. A vigil service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Feb. 17. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, with Father Dominic Athishu as celebrant.
