Charles Kirk

Charles Edward “Ed” Kirk, 74, of Kingwood, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.

Ed was born on Aug. 10, 1948, in Grafton and was the son of the late Roy and Helen (Riley) Kirk.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Kathy” Kirk; his two sons, Robert Lewis Lightner, of Morgantown, and Nicholas E. Kirk and wife Kaleigh, of Reedsville; and one daughter, Larissa B. Kirk and fiancée Angela Walls, of Fairmont.

Ed attended Fairmont State College and served in the United States Army. He was a foreman at the former Sterling Faucet in Morgantown, and a meat cutter at Save A Lot in Kingwood before his health forced him into disability in 2004. He loved being in the outdoors and taking short family trips.

Besides being a loving husband and father, he lived for his five grandchildren, Tara Grinnan, of Fairmont, Lorelai and Elliette Kirk, of Reedsville, and Camden and Koven Lightner, of Morgantown. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Donna Lamb and husband Bob; sister-in-law, Charlotte Collier and husband Tom; and brother-in-law, Herman Mason. Ed is survived by many cousins and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dortha Pratt; brother-in-law, Blake Pratt and nephew, Robert Pratt; sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Mason, and aunts and uncles.

As per his wishes, there will be no viewing or service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family has entrusted Kingwood Funeral Home with his cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Preston County Humane Society or to plant a tree in his memory.
