
Edgar “Bruiser” C. Fowler Sr., 92, of Cheat Lake, Morgantown, passed away peacefully with those who loved him by his side on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023 at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 22, 1930, son of the late Ellis and Goldie (Everly) Fowler.
Edgar graduated from University High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Edgar was in the Company I 23rd Infantry Regiment, combat team, 2nd Indian Head Division, “second to none” Assistant Squad Leader.
After the war, he went into the masonry field and retired from Local 15 in Fairmont. During his retirement, he loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout the years, he had several pets, including Pepe, Lady, Maggie and his last pet, which he truly adored, was Snookums, a dachshund who was faithfully by his side day and night. Snookums was great company to him.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Roger (Rosemary) Fowler, Pat Fowler and Edgar Fowler Jr.; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Noel), Felicia (Aaron), Brittany, Dustin, Sommer, Wyatt and Megan; great-grandchildren, Helena, Katie and other great-grandchildren; brothers, Willis “Butch” Fowler (Sharon), Eldon Fowler and Emil Fowler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Edgar is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Elva Helen (Pugh) Fowler; three children, Karen, David and Gerald Fowler; granddaughter, Elizabeth; brother, Theodore “Teddy Bear” Fowler; sister, Dorothy M. Fowler (Whipkey); and brother-in-law, Lester Whipkey.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 with the Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery.
