MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills introduced on Thursday, Jan. 19. Local sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

  • HB 2807, the Virtual Public Schools Act, to recognize a virtual school as an independent public school.
  • HB 2808 and HB 2821, to allow gambling and lottery winnings to be written off against losses.
  • HB 2809, to provide whistleblower protections to employees of state hospitals who report unsafe practices to governmental or regulatory agencies or the federally mandated protection and advocacy system; Delegate Amy Summers, R-Taylor, lead sponsor.
  • HB 2813, to require packaging of menstrual products sold in this state to contain a plain and conspicuous printed list of all ingredients listed in order of predominance.
  • HB 2814, to create the Hydrogen Power Task Force.
  • HB 2829, a permanent annual 10% salary increase for emergency medical technicians; Delegate Danielle Walker, D-Monongalia, lead sponsor; Delegates Evan Hansen, John Williams, both D-Monongalia, co-sponsors.
  • HB 2830, to encourage solar energy development on lands formerly used for mining and certain third-party co-generation projects, to provide electricity for commercial, industrial and manufacturing businesses or institutions of higher education or nonprofit organizations that are located in or will locate operations in West Virginia; Hansen, sponsor.
  • HB 2838, the Litterbug Act, counties shall be responsible for the placement of remote cameras to be placed in high traffic locations along public highways of previous littering for capturing evidence of illegal dumping of trash, tires, and other litter.
  • HR 4, a resolution condemning calls to defund the police.
  • SB 295, to extend the time that a prescription for spectacles or contact lenses is valid from one year to five years and expand the scope of the code to include prescriptions from ophthalmologists.
  • SB 297, to create the Mountain Homes Act and the Mountain Homes Fund to remove barriers to funding for home construction with the goal of promoting a sustainable quality of life for the state’s workforce.
