Robert Elwood Sanders, 75, of Morgantown, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Robert was born in Morgantown on Sept. 8, 1947, to the late Chester and Monie Sanders.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth (Patricia) Trippett and William “Bumper” Sanders; sister, Kathryn (Kenny) Robinson; in-laws, Warren “Peck” and Betty Radabaugh; brother-in-law, Otis “Sam” Radabaugh; and sister-in-law, Frances “Sue” (Sonny) Shaffer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Sanders; son, Robert “Punky” (Sheri) Sanders; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Midcap; sister; Judy (Steve) Mcleod; brother-in-law Clarence “Will” (Elsie) Radabaugh; sisters-in-law, Beverly Sanders, Wanda Yeager, and Georgia (Ed) Meyers; grandchildren, Colton Sanders, Lindsey Midcap and Megan Midcap; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and loyal companion dog, Pippy.
After serving in the Army, stationed in Germany, Robert returned to the United States, where he worked primarily as a carpenter up until retirement. After retirement, he spent his time refinishing antique furniture, as well as shooting pool, working through the daily newspaper crossword and playing the nine holes at Paradise Lake Golf Course. While still able, he loved spending time outdoors fishing, mowing the yard and riding the four-wheeler around the neighborhood to visit family, all while listening to his favorite rock and country music. Robert was a proud member of the American Legion Post 174 and the Masontown Church of the Nazarene, where he enjoyed the company of his closest friends. He loved to have a good time no matter who he was with, and spending quality time with his friends and family brought overwhelming joy into his life.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, and again from 11 a.m. until the time of services at noon on Saturday, Jan. 7 with Pastor Timothy Heaney officiating. Robert will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Robert’s memory be made to the Masontown Church of the Nazarene at P.O. Box 345 Masontown, WV 26542, or to WV Caring Hospice, who took incredible care of Robert in his time of greatest need, at P.O. Box 760 Arthurdale, WV 26520.
