David Berkey

David Paul Berkey, 75, of Morgantown, died of natural causes at home on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022. He was born in Oneida, N.Y. on Feb. 26, 1947. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Gallagher; his two sons, Anson Berkey and Lucas Berkey; daughter-in-law, Maria Jayseaca; sister, Christine Berger (Roger); nieces, Cynthia Berger and Kathleen Campbell; and nephew, Jonathan Berkey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Keith Berkey and Jean Teegarden, and brother, James Clifford Berkey.

David graduated from Hamilton High School in 1965. He was a 1969 graduate of Hartwick College with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. He worked 30 years for the federal government at various agencies in the capacity of a buyer, procurement specialist, contract negotiator and contracting officer. He ended his government career at NETL in Morgantown. After retiring from the government, he worked for the next 10 years at PTAC as a consultant for West Virginia small businesses.

In health, David enjoyed operating the small family farm in Oregon with Debbie and their many beloved weimaraners. After moving to Morgantown, he became an avid Mountaineer fan and enjoyed professional football and socializing with his many friends and acquaintances. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his optimistic outlook, making new friends, talking with people and being the life of the party.

A private memorial and burial service for friends and family will be announced at a later date.
