
Martha Ann Slaughter Furbee, 72, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at the Stonerise Nursing Home in Morgantown. She was born Sept. 19, 1950, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Junior and Ruby Rife Slaughter.
Martha was a member of the Benton’s Ferry United Methodist Church and was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. She owned and operated her own ceramic shop for nearly 25 years in the Atrium Mall. She later served in the telemarketing industry and then as an office manager with Slamick’s Gym, Spadafore’s Gym and Imaging Systems Specialists.
Martha was very social and never met a stranger. She could find a connection with anyone she met. As a result, in her life, Martha had an extended network of special friends and family. She cherished them all. She enjoyed watching WVU sports, keeping up with her friends and found joy in crafting, painting and ceramics. Martha was a very giving person and loved spending time with her family. She was a loving “Grammy” to her two grandsons; they were her pride and joy.
Martha is survived by her son, Gary George Furbee II and his wife Denise Furbee, of Morgantown; her grandsons, Tyler and Alex Furbee; her sisters, Carolyn Ledsome and Beverly Thomas (Billy Harsanyi); her niece and nephews: Brian (Stephanie) Ledsome, of Fairmont, Jessica Thomas (Michael Ryan), of Fairmont, Jeremy Slaughter, of Las Vegas and his mother, Vicki Slaughter Heston of Fairmont, Aaron Potoczny (Nicole), of Fairmont, and Justin Potoczney (Jennifer), of Fairmont, and their mother Sharlene Slaughter Osburn, of Fairmont; and her great-nieces and great-nephews: Kandace and Kyle Ledsome, Elizabeth, Emily, Eli and Eddison Ryan and Austin and Anna Potoczny. Martha is also survived by her former husband and the father of her son, Gary G. Furbee (Cathy), of Morgantown, and her many in-laws within the Furbee and Bartlett families.
In addition her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her brother, John Slaughter.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the care and concern expressed towards Martha from both the Harmony at Morgantown and Stonerise in Morgantown.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St. Fairmont. Friends and family are invited to visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. The funeral will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 with the Rev. Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
