The West Virginia Community Educational Outreach Service annual conference was held Oct 3-6 at Jackson’s Mill, following a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
CEOS is an arm of WVU Extension Service and was represented at conference by nine members and one extension representative.
Members took part in classes in a variety of subjects to be taught locally in 2023 as well as craft classes and games. Five members were recognized for their many years of service to this organization. Those present received certificates and Commemorative Extension Homemakers pins.
Olive Kerns accepted her certificate and pin for 60 years of service. Others receiving certificates and pins were: Jeannine DeVault, 70 years; Bessie Given, 60 years; Myrtle Gabbert, 55 years; and Carol Hungate, 55 years.
Debbie Blehschmidt was recognized as the West Virginia State Poetry Contest first-place winner. She was presented a certificate, a book, pen and notebook from West Virginia State Purposeful Reading Committee Chairperson Judy Cowell. Shannon Slavensky, of the Ridgedale CEOS club, served as conference nurse and the Morgantown area representative. Monongalia County had four first-time members and Mandy Patterson, Monongalia County Family and Community Development program coordinator, attended the conference for the first time as well.
