Mary Ellen Molony Brady passed into eternal life on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022. Among her wide circle of friends and family, Mary Ellen was known for her wisdom, wit and wonderful stories. We will miss her and cherish her memory.

Born in Chicago on July 28, 1928, to John F. Molony and Mary (Kenny) Molony, Mary Ellen was the loving mother of Mary Clare Brady and Laura Brady (Tim Sweet); treasured aunt of Mimi Hopkinson Lappin, the late Margaret Hopkinson, Catherine Hopkinson, John Hopkinson, Ellen Hopkinson Brown and many other nieces and nephews. She was also a devoted long-time friend to many.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Brady, whom she married on June 15, 1957; her son, John Arthur Brady; and her sister, Joanne Hopkinson.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Mary Ellen completed her Master of Arts at Loyola University of Chicago. Her first jobs were teaching history at St. Scholastica Academy in Chicago and Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Ill.

A resident of the Chicago suburbs until 1999, Mary Ellen became a homemaker, was an elected member of the Mt. Prospect Library Board, volunteered time at her local hospital and with the League of Women Voters and worked in sales. Upon retiring to Morgantown in 1999, she was an active member of the Literary Discussion Group, Master Gardeners and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at WVU.
The family would like to thank Mary Ellen’s doctor, Alexia Bozek; the home-health and hospice teams from Amedisys, and a special thank you to Jessica G. for her devoted love, care and support over the past five years.
