Mon Health Preston kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

KINGWOOD — On Oct. 4, Preston County officials declared October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Preston County.

Following the ceremony, Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital staff placed pink bows on streetlights at Price, South Price and Main streets in Kingwood. Bows will remain on the streetlights throughout October to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Staff and volunteers also participated in the first of the “Pink Out” games in Preston County for the Preston High School girls’ soccer team. These annual events aim to support the Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital Foundation Pink Fund, which provides financial support for patients through screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and breast biopsy services.

Hospital staff participated in their own “Pink Out” on Friday, wearing Breast Cancer Awareness Month shirts. Proceeds from shirt sales raised more than $1,000 for the Pink Fund.

Other events include the volleyball game between West Preston Middle School and Central Preston Middle School on Oct. 19 and Oct. 28 for the Preston High School football game vs. Buckhannon Upshur.
