KINGWOOD — It was yet another rough start for the Preston football team, falling behind Fairmont Senior 41-13 at halftime, including 34-0 in the first quarter, as the Knights fall to 0-3 following a 61-33 loss to the Polar Bears on Friday night.
Preston did score three straight touchdowns in the second half to close the gap at 55-33, but it was too little, too late, though there were a few encouraging moments from Preston’s offense.
The Knights finished with 241 total yards — 103 in the air and 138 on the ground — led by Ethan Harper’s 86 rushing yards and a whopping five total touchdowns. Quarterback Dillon Taylor threw for 97 yards and a touchdown and also added 50 yards on the ground.
Four of Harper’s five scores were on the ground, and his other was on a 48-yard reception from Taylor.
For Fairmont Senior (2-0), quarterback Dylan Whitehair led the team with 102 yards rushing, while also throwing for 207 yards and three touchdowns tosses.
“Overall it was what we expected from them, they have a lot of speed,” Preston head coach Mark Deep said. “I think our quarterback (Harper) gained some confidence tonight. It’s nice to put the ball in the endzone no matter what, so getting 33 is points for us and so we have to build off of that. We will go into our bye week, get healthy and try to come back and take the positives away from the game.”
Preston heads into a bye week after three straight home games to open the season, and it will return home again on Sept. 23 when the Knights host East Fairmont.
