On Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, Phillip F Rhodes, 81, of Tunnelton, left his earthly bonds, saddled his spirit horse and rode off into his final sunset. He was born on June 17, 1941, in Tunnelton, son of the late B.F. and Emma Jane “Mace” Rhodes.
Phillip graduated from Fellowsville High School, Class of 1960 and attended Fairmont State College. He served in the United States Army Corp of Engineering and station in Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md. and in France. After getting out of the service he was a professional firefighter in Clovis, N.M. for two years, worked out of the Laborer Union #379 in Morgantown and was a school teacher for Preston County Schools for 18 years. He was a shade tree mechanic and loved anything cowboys, Westerns and farming. He enjoyed going antiquing. He was a member of the Faith Fellowship Assembly of God.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Lana Ruth Wolfe Rhodes; one daughter, Mariann R. Plum and Allen, of Tunnelton; one son, Phillip Linn Rhodes and Teressa, of Moatsville; five grandchildren, Allie Plum and wife Tori, Kristin Brewer and Andrew, Laura Ondo and husband Addison, Grace Schultz and Shawn and Gus Rhodes; 10 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Jacob, Arabella, Allison, Easton, Collin, Abel, Aurora, Addilynn and Beatrice; four siblings, Emma Jane Rhodes Brazaell, of Lewisville, Texas, Frances Anna Rhodes Bolyard, of Kingwood, Velma Marcena Rhodes Cross and Donald, of Kingwood, and Thomas Nelson Rhodes and Nina, of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Phillip is preceded in death by one daughter, Marcella Rhodes, in 2021; one granddaughter, Kathryn Rhodes; one brother, Douglas Wayne Rhodes; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Brazell and Eddie Bolyard. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Stonerise in Kingwood and Amedisys Hospice.
Bolyard Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation and is honored to serve the Rhodes family. Inurnment will be at Mount Zion Cemetery at a later date.
