John Bailey Dadisman, 72, of Gladesville, went to be with his Lord on July 6, 2022, following a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia, a form of Parkinsons Disease.
Born on Dec. 4, 1949, to Frank Bailey and Harriet Louk Dadisman in Philippi, he grew up in the Grafton area and graduated from Grafton High School in 1967.
Upon turning 18, he took an early enlistment in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was stationed with the 1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion, 3rd Marine Division at Dong Ha for 13 months. When he returned stateside, he taught briefly at Camp LeJuene and upon release, came home to West Virginia.
In 1972, he married Jo Ann Danks and began his education at Fairmont State College the same year. After graduation with dual degrees, he began working at Albright Power Station in Preston County and remained there 24 years.
He and Jo Ann raised one son, John Franklin, on the family farm. He served the community through involvement in the community watch, Gladesville Community Association and the Preston County Chapter 977 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
He valued family of the utmost importance and considered his church family equally dear. He re-dedicated his life to Christ in the mid 1980s and worked to share the Gospel as he served the community through the Madigan Avenue (Morgantown) Church of Christ. John served as a deacon of the building and grounds and benevolence for many years, enjoyed working in various capacities with the children’s ministry and served as elder for the congregation.
John was preceded in death by his parents; two half sisters, Virginia Dadisman Smith and Dorothy Dadisman Grey; and one niece, Sharon Smith Trapp. In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by his daughter-in-law, Michelle Dadisman; two grandchildren, Jacob and Julia Dadisman, all of Delaware; and his brother, Frank Junior Dadisman and wife Barbara, of Grafton, and their families.
John’s life was beautiful and well-lived and will be celebrated with a service to honor his life and legacy at the Morgantown Church of Christ, 361 Scott Ave., Morgantown, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, officiated by his former pastor and close friend Matt Lowe, current church pastor Brad Schrum and his dear friend, Richard Moore. Friends are asked to begin arriving at the church for the service at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the service, a time of food and fellowship for all in attendance will be held in the church hall. To complete the day’s events, John will be laid to rest in the family plot with full military honors accorded at the Weaver-Sapp Cemetery in Independence.
