Richard Harker Wade, 81, of Morgantown, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born on Dec. 26, 1940, in Morgantown, a son of the late Efford Lemon “Bill” and Helen (Harker) Wade.
Richard was a graduate of University High School, Class of 1958. He was a member of the school’s FFA and wrestling team and served as the vice president of his class. After graduating, he received his associate degree in business from the WV Business College.
From a young age, Richard worked alongside his father and brother in the family business, Independent Dressed Beef. He spent many years as an insurance agent for People’s Life, doing what he enjoyed, spending time and talking with people. He was an apprentice auctioneer from 1995-2013, working with his son in his auction business.
Richard dedicated his life to Jesus, and you could see that in all that he did. He was a strong family man, a loving and dedicated husband and a longtime member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Morgantown. He was a wonderful father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, and, most importantly, ensuring that they knew the love of Jesus Christ. He was a loving grandfather, and he took great pride in taking care of his grandchildren, teaching them life skills, and instilling in them old fashioned values.
He enjoyed attending auctions, buying and selling, Beagle dogs, and hunting. But most of all, he enjoyed visiting and talking with friends.
He is survived by two daughters and spouses, Pamela and Bill Kessler, Deborah and Gene Wotring; one son and spouse, Thomas and Christine Wade; one brother and spouse, Ronald and Maxine Wade, of Morgantown; eight grandchildren, Savannah, Garrett, Logan, Chantelle, Mirannda and Rennick Wotring and Tommy and Whitney Wade; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Jean (Merrill) Wade, and one brother, John Ross Wade.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Richard’s special friend Agnes Horton who he cared for dearly.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Richard with his family during visitation at Wade’s Auction and Event Center, located at 2330 Blue Horizon Drive, Morgantown, WV, 26501, from 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, with the Rev. Dan Bayles officiating. Interment will follow the service at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 110 Hobbs Run Road, Mount Morris, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the Morgan Funeral Home, P.O. Box 269, Reedsville, WV 26547-0269.
