Dolores Gail (Luzadder) Huggins, of Morgantown, went home to her Lord on May 19, 2022, after an extended illness.
Born July 28, 1939, in Grafton, to Genevieve and Denzil Luzadder, Dolores was a 1958 graduate of Morgantown High School, where she met the love of her life, Tom Huggins. They were married for 57 years. They raised four children and welcomed five grandchildren.
The daughter of a teacher, Dolores was interested in education and worked for Monongalia County Head Start, Brown’s Chapel Elementary and Morgantown High School. She was also a “second mom” and early educator of numerous children that she cared for as an in-home daycare provider.
After her mother’s death, she became a regular volunteer at Sundale Nursing Home, where she visited regularly and organized monthly programming for more than 30 years.
She served as a Sunday School teacher at Morgantown Revival Center, volunteered for Goshen Baptist Church and was a member of Halleck Church.
Dolores was known for her delicious homemade bread, baked pasta and homemade pizza and for her passion for pigs of all sizes. She was a voracious reader and loved country music, especially John Denver. She was loved by all for her open, generous heart, and will be missed and remembered with love by her family, the many children and elderly persons for whom she cared, and her life-long friends and neighbors in Morgantown.
Dolores was preceded in death by her mother, Genevieve Sampson Luzadder; her father and stepmother, Denzil and Lena Luzadder; a younger brother, Neil, who died in infancy; an older brother, Edward Luzadder, of Grafton; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Thomas Huggins, of Morgantown; children, April Wintermoyer-Sims (Charlie) and their children, Christine Shanaberger and Pete Sorensen, and Ryan and Morgan Wintermoyer; son, Scott Huggins (Jill) and their children, Tyler Burkhart and Lauren; daughter, Dee Holleran (Pat) and their daughter Phoebe Uttermohlen; daughter, Margaret Huggins; brother, Keith Luzadder (Chris) and their children and grandchildren; nephews, Ed Luzadder Jr. and Terry Darfus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is beyond grateful for the loving support of Amedisys Hospice of Morgantown, whose knowledge and kindness made Mom’s last days more comfortable. They were a great help to all of us.
A celebration of life hosted by her husband and children will be held at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 S High St, Morgantown, on June 22, 2022. A time of gathering with family and friends will begin at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., all are invited to a celebration of Dolores’ life.
Those who join us to honor Dolores’ memory are invited to bring memories, stories and photos to share during the service, or to email them to dolores.huggins22@gmail.com. You may view memorials and a slide show on the Fred L. Jenkins website at https://www.fredjenkinsfuneralhome.com.
The family will appreciate your loving remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, we ask for calls and visits to Dad. Mom was the center of his life, and he will appreciate your love at this time and in the future. Donations may also be made to Halleck Church, 88 Brytes Way, Morgantown WV 26508 attn: Carol Copeland.
