Barbara Skidmore

Barbara Jean Skidmore, 71, of Morgantown, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Mon Health Medical Center. Barb was born in Morgantown on Aug. 6, 1950, a daughter of Forrest Vernon Boyce, of Morgantown, and the late Juanita Amelia Nicklow Boyce.

Barb was the matriarch of her family, always putting the needs of her family above her own. There wasn’t a time Barb didn’t drop everything to be there for her family, even if they didn’t realize they needed her, she was there. Barb spent her life being a social butterfly and caring for the needs of others. Being the oldest sibling in her family, she enjoyed organizing family functions, including: sisters’ weekends, camping, family gatherings and other events to keep everyone together.

Barb had a prominent artistic side and used it to be a successful business owner and entrepreneur. She owned and operated her own hair salon and later became a successful photographer. She always cared about her appearance and the appearance of others, doing nails, hair and makeup to make sure everyone looked their best. To help pass her talent on to others, she taught cosmetology in Uniontown, Pa. Above all, her family was everything to her and she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

In addition to her father, Barb leaves behind to cherish her memory the love of her life of 55 years, Ward Sherman Skidmore; daughters, Nicole Danine Paugh (Shawn), of Morgantown, and Kimberly Ann Ballantyne (John D.), of Frankfort, Ky.; sisters, Donna Carter (John), of Bruceton Mills, Pam Youst (Ken), of Morgantown, and Melisa Baker (Doug), of Morgantown; brother, Kenny Boyce (Kim), of Bruceton Mills; brother-in-law, Terry King; and grandchildren, Keely Stiles (John), Levi Stiles, Austin Paugh, Alyvia Paugh, Nick Ballantyne (Caitlin), Emily Ballantyne (Keith) and Lillian Ballantyne; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her mother, Barb was preceded in death by a sister, Jan King.

Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home, from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday with Pastor Shawn Frasher officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery.
