Kathy Salucci Mayer, 71, of Morgantown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. She was surrounded by loving family and the amazing staff at Mon Health Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 20, 1951, in Clarksburg.
She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Frank and Leona (Marchetti) Salucci. Kathy is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Mayer; and her siblings, Paulette Salucci Claudio (James), of Barrington, Ill., Frank Salucci (Tammy), of Morgantown, and Lee Ann Shaffer, of Cocoa, Fla. She is also survived by her children, Alicia Stanger Kern (Steve), of Columbus, Ohio, Philip Stanger, of Morgantown, Andrea Stanger Heiskell (Travis), of Morgantown, Christopher Reed (Meagan), of Port Orange, Fla.; and stepchildren Lauren Mayer, of Martinsburg, Ryan Mayer (Amanda), of Frederick, Md., Justin Mayer, of Morgantown; and grandchildren, Abigail and Katelyn Kern, Charlie and Bennett Reed and Olivia, Nathan and Addison Mayer.
Kathy graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in Morgantown in 1969 and was employed by J&J in New Jersey before returning to Morgantown. She was married to Solomon Douglas Stanger and they had three beautiful children together, Alicia, Philip and Andrea. She spent her life as a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. Kathy was involved in every aspect of their lives, never missing a moment to support her family as their biggest cheerleader. She cherished being their mother more than anything else and her children will never forget the unconditional love and support she always provided.
Kathy worked at West Virginia University in Student Life until her retirement in 2018. Employed at WVU for over 20 years, Kathy wore many hats, but her most cherished was serving as a mother away from home for countless international and out-of-state students, many of whom stayed in touch with her long after their graduation.
Described by all that met her as a generous and loving person, Kathy enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafting and country line dancing and, for many years, was a member of the String of Pearls Dance Group.
The family would like to acknowledge the entire staff at Mon Health Medical Center, WV Caring Hospice and Dr. Andrew Heiskell.
Although Kathy will be deeply missed, those remaining are comforted by the knowledge of her ascension into the loving arms of her Creator, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and will continue to await the day when they are all reunited with her.
